Dear Ladies and Gentlemen from the ChromiumOS developer team,

I am a chromebook user who entered developer mode to make some modifications and got stuck at the following problem:

When I first set the chronos password, I was prompted to login as root in the developer console using the standard password test0000. This worked and I could successfully change the chronos password.

However, now when I start the developer console and try to log in to root, neither the standard password, nor the password I used for chronos (which I could already guess but I still tried) worked for logging into root in the developer console.

Now my question is: Does the root password change automatically after setting the chronos password? Why does it do that? How can I find out the new password for the developer console root?

If the last question results in the answer that it is not possible: Are there any alternatives for resetting the developer console root password other than powerwashing the entire Chromebook?

Thank you very much for your help in advance - even if I am not a part of the developer team.

Best regards,

Stanley Searles

you didn't say how you changed the password.  if you used chromeos-setdevpasswd, that sets "the dev mode password", it isn't setting the chronos or the root password.  the password is used for all accounts by design.
