After much deliberation, the Chrome OS kernel 4.4 branch is finally ready. You may begin development in the usual places [1].

Please be sure to 'repo sync', so you get the proper v4.4 directory, and not the v4.4-experimental directory that would upload to our staging repository. Any changes uploaded from v4.4-experimental to the kernel-next repo will NOT be use anywhere.

Other notes: We have this branch booting to UI and passing tests on Samus (and probably others), and are working on testing rk3288. The {x86,amd64}-generic overlays have moved to 4.4 now, so we should get some minimal QEMU coverage on the CQ.

Regards,
Brian

Brian,

I'm not so familiar with ChomeOS kernel upgrade procedure, but can I expect the 4.4 kernel on my Samus to be installed? If yes, how can I do that?

Hi,

In general we don't update base kernel versions on shipped devices, so there are no plans on moving Samus or other Chromebooks to 4.4 for end users. It is, however, the kernel that will be used for development of future platforms.

Is there some documentation on the features of 4.4 vs the previous version?
