I'm not sure how much of a problem this will be for people in practice, but might as well get ahead of it.

with the mandatory MV3 migration, we're going to raise the minimum required version of Chrome from 86 to 108 starting in January 2023. that means older versions won't be able to install the Secure Shell extension from the CWS. the deprecated Chrome App isn't affected.

this is necessary because the Chrome folks made a change back in 97 that affects us but they didn't consult us about it. the issue should be resolved in 108, but trying to install in older Chrome versions crashes the extension at load time.

all previous releases are available for manual unpacked install, but it's not really documented. if installing older ones is important, we can document this flow.
