Hi,

I'm using Alt Gr for typing dollar and number sign, ampersand, brackets, tilde etc. I know this issue was already reported, and is still there, so I think it's not easy to resolve it. Anyway Chrome Secure Shell (chromium-hterm) is "what I really need". Please let know once will be this issue resolved (somehow, somewhere).

Are you seeing this issue with-and-only-with an external, non en-US keyboard?

I have this issue with cs-CZ keyboard (here's cz-qwertz keyboard layout). Most of symbols, which are normally available on us keyboard without any 'special' modifier key, are only accesible with Alt Gr.

In general, people here are switching between czech and us keyboard rather. But I am used to cz-qwertz layout.

Anyway the issue is that Alt Gr works like Control key.

Thank you for any help with this.

Does this problem happen if you use an en-US keyboard (say, the built-in keyboard on a Chromebook) with the layout set to cs-CZ?

I understand that the issue is real and needs to be fixed.  I asked about your keyboard because I am not able to reproduce the problem on an en-US keyboard, and I don't know if it's because I'm doing something wrong or because the problem is restricted to other layouts.

Feel free to star https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=211925 to track the progress.

I don't have en-US keyboard built-in or either external so I can't say for sure if I have issue with or not. But I believe there is no difference and I will have the same issue for en-US keyboard with the cs-CZ layout as well. I think hterm just handles Alt Gr key implicitly like "if e.Control { // <- which is true for Alt Gr (just guessing)". OK I can't say but I think if Alt Gr won't be handled there will be no issue because correct character will passed. The statements here may not be correct but the issue is real and it will be nice if somebody figures it out.

Hi, same problem here with Secure Shell running on Chrome 35.0.1916.153 m, on a Windows 7 system with a French KB layout. This is really annoying since I can't type the pipe character, which is quite problematic on an Unix shell...  (backtick, backslash, hash, square brackets and curly braces don't work either)

Same problem here with a spanish keyboard.

This issue makes it useless for anything more than simple commands since you can't type '\',  '|, '@', etc...

Come on ! Can this issue please be fixed ?

I completely understand the USA/QWERTY-Centric attitude of the owner ,but there are a lot of other people in the world with different keyboard layouts who love to use his application in Chrome or on their chromebook.

How high is this issue on the "to fix" list ?

Before Xmas I was able to use a French keyboard layout using AltGr. For accentuation and other specific characters

Now it's all broken. What have you done ?

Nothing has changed since Christmas.  We're planning a fix, but nothing has been committed or released.

Yup. Pretty much makes it useless for me, since I can't type any code without copy pasting "{" and "}" from somewhere.

It is because now i have this win7 thing. At home on mac the vim works. Just have to remember the keyboard layout but it gets into the finger tips. Now at work I have that windows thing :-(

Anyway the beta code editor works.

nevermind, going into Options, under the Keyboard heading, and playing with the different Alt-GR modes solved it.
