GSoC Project Selection Follow-Up and Interest in Continuing Contribution

Hi @sreeja @jrobbins,

I noticed that the projects I proposed — Search UI Enhancements and WebStatus Dark Mode & Mobile UI — were not selected for GSoC this year.
I'm wondering if there's a specific reason these projects were dropped?

That said, I'd still love to contribute to the Search UI Enhancements outside of GSoC, following the plan I originally proposed. Please let me know if that's possible.

Hi Suprith,

Thank you for your proposals. We fully acknowledge the amount of effort you all have put in to write a proposal, contributing to chromium over the past few months.

Unfortunately the mentors and teams of the above two projects you mentioned got impacted by the recent google layoffs and we couldn't find mentors to support the contributors for both the projects. 

I know this might feel very frustrating, We are very sorry about that,  we got to know about the impact after the contributors submitted the proposals. This is something that happened unexpectedly this year and we will try to avoid it next time by having more backup mentors for each project at Chromium.
