Hi Everyone,
We are pleased and excited to announce that Chromium is participating in GSoC'22 for the consecutive year. Here are a few resources and steps on how to choose a project, start contributing to Chromium and write a sound application.
Introduction
Chromium organization consists of projects from both Chromium and Chromium OS. Chromium’s mission and goal is to provide Fast, seamless, safe and reliable computing experiences accessible to all. All these projects impact billions of users around the world. If you are thrilled and excited to contribute to Chromium let's dive in.
Choosing a project idea to work on (List)
This year we have a wide range of projects from Security, V8, WebGPU, Spec Work, Extensions, Tracing, Automation Testing, and many more. We have added all descriptions to this ideas doc which also includes the project doc where you will see the technology stack, project goals, expectations as well as starter bugs you can work on. We highly recommend contributors go through the project doc and get an understanding of the technology stack, expectations before going ahead.
Express your interest
Once you are excited and interested in any project, use this group chromi...@chromium.org (all admins and mentors are present here) to express your interest in a particular project and ask questions on any starter bugs listed on the project doc. These starter bugs/ milestones will help you get an understanding of the project and strengthen your application.
Communication
This group is the best place to ask any questions on how to start contributing, ask questions on any projects. Once you have contributed to Chromium, you can join our Slack channel to interact and ask questions with all Chromium contributors. We also have various technical groups where you can ask questions.
Submit your proposal
We have created an application template that you can use (make a copy). Please ensure you have answered all questions on the template in your proposal. Here are some tips on writing a good proposal and example proposal for reference. If you would like to get initial feedback on your proposal. Send it out to this group, cc mentors and we will be happy to review it.
Looking forward to answering your questions, seeing your application and working with you this summer!
Thank you,
Sreeja - Chromium GSoC Admin
