Dear Chromium GSoC Team,
My name is Tarendra Rajak, and I am a B.Tech student with a strong interest in open-source development and large-scale systems. I am eager to contribute to the Chromium project as part of Google Summer of Code 2026.
I have hands-on experience with C++, Git, and GitHub, and I am comfortable working in Linux-based development environments. In addition, I have a solid understanding of web technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and basic React, which helps me understand browser behavior and frontend-related components.
I am currently exploring the Chromium codebase to better understand its architecture, build system, and contribution workflow. I am particularly interested in learning more about Chromium’s rendering, performance optimizations, and cross-platform design.
I would appreciate your guidance on the following:
Beginner-friendly issues or components suitable for first-time contributors
Recommended setup steps or contribution guidelines for new contributors
Any advice on preparing a strong and effective GSoC proposal for Chromium
Thank you for your time and for maintaining such a large and impactful open-source project. I look forward to learning from and contributing to the Chromium community.
Best regards,
Tarendra Rajak
Hello Chromium Team,
I hope you’re doing well.
My name is Shoaib, and I am a Computer Science undergraduate preparing seriously for Google Summer of Code 2026. I have been exploring different open source organizations, and Chromium is one of the projects I am most interested in contributing to.
I have experience working with C++ and JavaScript, and I enjoy understanding large codebases and building features incrementally. With that in mind, I wanted to ask for guidance on how a student contributor should get started with Chromium in a meaningful way.
In particular, I would appreciate advice on:
Which components or areas are suitable for first-time contributors
How to find beginner-friendly or “good first” issues
Any recommended setup, documentation, or contribution path to follow
My aim is to gradually understand the Chromium codebase, contribute consistently, and build the skills and experience needed to be a strong GSoC candidate.
Thank you for maintaining such an impactful project and for supporting new contributors. I would be grateful for any direction or resources you could share.
Best regards,
Shoaib Malik
