Trying to setup Chrome extension bu am getting 'bad client id: NON_NATIVE'

I am trying to use the  sample Identity API and when I sign in I get

{"message":"OAuth2 request failed: Service responded with error: 'bad client id: NON_NATIVE'"}

I have no idea what this means or why I am getting it. Can anyone enlighten me?

Kindly check that you are adding the project in the Google APIs Console as a chrome app and not as a Web application.
