Was Chrome marking "discarded" tabs in some way?

I've received reports that discarded tabs are not marked as such in Chromium anymore.
I can definitely confirm, that discarding tabs with:

https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Mozilla/Add-ons/WebExtensions/API/tabs/discard
makes absolutely no UI change to the discarded tabs.
Is this a regression?
