Hi Simeon

My extension was approved on May 12th, but the small promotional image (440x280) has not yet been approved.

Is normal? What can I do?

Thank you.

Does anyone else have that problem?

Hi there,

On the documentation it says you can check the "status" of your promotional tile in the dashboard. I don't think this feature is working well in the new dashboard, but you can revert to the old dashboard and check there. In fact, it might a good idea to submit them again by uploading them using the old dashboard.

You can switch by scrolling down, and at the bottom right of the page you will see this welcome message. You can click opt out to switch to the old dashboard and upload your visuals there.

Promo Tiles Documentation
https://developer.chrome.com/webstore/images#promo

Here is a description of the review statuses:

  • Pending Review status: The image has not yet been reviewed, and is not being displayed in the store. Images should be reviewed within one week from submission.
  • No status: The image has been approved, and is being displayed in the store. [*Images from 'Draft' or 'Trusted testers' items will not show an image status. You will need to publish the item in order to get your promo image approved.]
  • Rejected: The image has been reviewed and rejected, and is not being displayed in the store. The reason(s) for rejection will be displayed in the Promotional Images section of the item's Edit page. We encourage you to review the reasons, and to make the necessary changes before re-uploading new improved images. New uploaded images will immediately have a Pending Review status.

Hi Jack and Amy Dev

Thanks for your great information.

I uploaded the promotional images with the old panel, I consider it more stable and I think that as you say, I think it gives less problems.

I don't have any rejection messages for promotional images, so I think it's just waiting for approval, it takes 8 days since I was approved.

I suspect there is a long delay in the current approval queue for promotional images.

I want Simeon to confirm if this is correct and the approval times are normal.

Maybe, I just have to wait longer. I do not know.

Thanks!

Hi Joanna,

I wait to see what Simeon tells us, maybe there are many delays in the approval of images.

Thanks for adding your case.

Hi Julian.

They've been like this for weeks.

I think there is now a long wait in the approval of the promotional image (440x280) in all extensions of the Chrome Store.

The Chrome Store support team does nothing to review and approve the images now, or doesn't really have enough staff, this is frustrating.

I will have to wait much longer, I have been waiting weeks. I hope they tell us something.

How long will we have to wait?

The support is really broken and I think they will not approve the promotional images in a long time.

Hello everyone,

I'm having the same problem with promotional images that are not showing up, but I can't seem find the place in the dashboard where I can see the status of the promotional image review. I've checked both old and new, but I don't see anything that refers to a status (see attached screenshot).

Could someone please point me in the right direction? (preferably with a screenshot where too look)

Thanks!

Hi Gerald,

It looks like there is a longer wait for the promo tiles to be approved by the store team. Are your screenshots showing up correctly in your Extension listing? It might not hurt to send a quick message to support and ask about your particular case https://support.google.com/chrome_webstore/contact/developer_support/

Hope this gets resolved soon,
Amy

Thank you Amy for your reply.

Screenshots are showing up normally, I was just wondering where in the UI (old or new) I can find the following:

Note: You can find the review status of your promo image in each item's listing within your developer dashboard. Click on 'Edit' on the item's listing, and scroll down to the Promotional Images section. If you have questions about the status of your promo images, contact cws-a...@google.com.

To address the original question, it's not normal, but it seems very little is these days. Huge delays for image review are the current world's version of normal. As you guessed, image review is quite backed up at the moment.

I think I've posts outside of this thread speculating that this is a bug with the new developer dashboard. Actually, the bug is that the old developer dashboard is allowing devs to skip image review. That said, I'm not in a hurry to see this fixed as its the only workaround devs have at the moment.

Hi Simeon, thank you for answering me

I published my extension from the old panel and it was approved on the 12th.

What exactly should i do?

Publish from the new panel again?

I do not understand.

I hope you can help me.

Thank you.

Same as us - I've tried to contact cws-assets and cws-developer support for over a month now but nothing has worked.

Surely there is a way to get reviewed quicker it's literally just a thumbnail yet my extension code can get reviewed and approved within a few days...

It's getting a bit frustrating now because thumbnails have a big impact on converting impressions into page clicks and downloads.

Not sure what else I can try at this point...

Hi

send email to cws-developer support for help, but I have been waiting for a clear answer or solution for more than 2 weeks, we have not obtained a solution, just an automatic reply, there is really a long wait for approval of images, we have been waiting since May 12 and we see that this may take more than one month.

There is no solution!

I am very disappointed with the support, since there is none, really my experience in the last year is a bad experience.

More than a month of waiting!!

Our promotional image is not seen in the Chrome Store listings yet, we have sent 4 messages to support that have been answered by a robot, no solution.

Four direct consequences for not having a promotional image review system:

1. Poor positioning and poor conversion of extensions, the extensions that do have a promotional image will rank better in the results.

2. A / B testing cannot be done, this is useless now.

3. Without promotional listing image, the design is really poor and simplified to the icon, there is a clear loss of user confidence, logically.

4. The conversion by search within the Chrome Store despite using relevant keywords is really very low, fewer users download extensions without a promotional image in the listing, this is really important.

My conclusion:

Without approvals of images for technical reasons, developers are wasting our time in Chrome Store, what is the use of developing a nice extension with a good design, if there is no possibility of showing part of that design or the presentation is insufficient. Really sad

I see that Chrome Store does not have any support right now and the existing one does not provide solutions, there is no real feedback and there are no certainties of time, the experience is really bad for any developer.

Many things to improve, friends. Without support, this is useless.

Share Pass and Julian, are you using the workaround that Amy described here? If you are not using the workaround I expect that the extension will get rejected for not having an icon. If you've been pending review for more than 3 weeks please open an issue using this form. I can't currently help directly with asset reviews, but I'm tryin to see if I can get the appropriate access to do so.

Jo, it looks like version 1.0.3 was published today and it appears to have a full set of promo images. If your listing is as you expect, it would be helpful if you could write up what you did to get through. If not, I could use some more details on what is missing.

Hi Simeon,

Sorry I should've posted an update - had to email chrome support a few times and eventually got a reply.

Shortly after, my image was reviewed and approved. I think it really is a matter of a large backlog but I still do think it is unusual that the image review process is considerably slower than the code review process. In regards to your question, I had already tried that workaround suggested by Amy but I don't believe it affected the wait times for us as we were still waiting at least 3 weeks after trying it.

Hopefully this process is faster in the future so other people have a better experience.

Thanks,
