Hello,

I have a v2 extension on webstore.
After June 2024, v2 extensions will be deprecated.

My questions are:

1. If I upload a v3 extension (same extension id of the v2) and there is a bug,
then can I rollback to the previous version (v2) or not?
I talk for the time after June 2024.

2. Assume Google removed my extension due to Yellow Zinc.
They said that the Description field is not satistfied.
Then, I modified the Description field on Store Listing and submitted it to a review (I did not upload a zip package).
If Google will accept that version after a review, does it means that the browsers of the users that already have the extension (that removed) installed on their computers, will try to update the extension or not?
I ask because I want to understand what trigger an automatically update of the extension.

3. A user installed my chrome extension from webstore, in Microsoft Edge.
In that case, does Edge will try to update it automatically from Google's webstore if I upload an update to the webstore?

Thanks a lot!

Hi there,

You can create a new Chrome extension with Manifest V3 (and write in the Chrome Web Store description text that this is a BETA version). And you can still keep the Chrome extension Manifest V2 in the store.
When it is free of issues, you can then update your stable Manifest V2 to Manifest V3. You can then choose to unpublish or list the other Manifest V3.

Thanks,

Thanks Stefan for the help already! Just to go through each of the questions:
  1. Yes, version rollback will remain available after June including for going back to an MV2 version.
  2. When your next update is approved, any users with an older version of the extension will be updated.
  3. Yes, Edge should still check for updates from the Chrome Web Store. This isn't something we work on, so we can't help with any issues there, but it should behave similarly to Chrome.
