When editing an extension via the developer dashboard, the Google Analytics ID field refers to tracking your extension's page in the Web Store, correct? This does not mean using GA to track things inside the extension itself? This is confusing because I've used that field on an older extension to track the web store page, but clicking on the 'More Info' link takes you here:
which in turn takes you here:
making me believe it is for using analytics within the extension, and not for the web store.

That said, when I try to add a new GA profile to track a new extension's store page, I get an 'Enter a valid URL' error.

Take the extension's url:

Having selected 'https://' in the first input, then 'chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/netflix-enhancements/glefmeoggphbdgeddmnmhfejpiipcmlf' in the second input, I get an error. What URL am I to use to track an extension's web store page?

The GA field you see in the dashboard is for tracking analytics related to the Chrome Web store, such as installations and Detail Page views.

Thanks Joe. Any idea why I can't add that extension to my analytics account without getting an invalid URL error? http://i.imgur.com/7ZO3j.png

When you supply the GA account # to the dashboard, GA will automatically add those analytics to your account for you. You don't need to add anything to GA.

But if I want to create a new account to use with chrome extensions, as one of the documentation pages suggests, I can't without setting up a 'web property' at the same time. So if I wanted to create an account just for my extensions, I can't because it won't accept the URL.

See here: https://support.google.com/chrome_webstore/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=188739

Since I have more than one extension and plan on making another, I figured I should make a seperate GA account for them. How can I do that when it won't accept the webstore urls to create the account?

Use chrome.google.com without the path.

Thanks Abraham, that worked. And thank you again Joe for helping out too. Maybe that help page that walks you through how to set up tracking for your webstore page should point that out?
