I cannot find this anywhere -- how can display the browser action
popup?

It is currently possible in Safari and Firefox (Add-on SDK)
extensions. I cannot believe it is not possible in Google Chrome.

For now we are resorting to injecting an iframe which does not work
very well. Ideally there would be something like
chrome.browserAction.show() method but I cannot find anything
resembling this call, even in the trunk documentation.

Hi Roustem,

There's no way to programmatically open browser actions. Depending on your use case, it may make sense to use a page action or open up a background notification.
