🚨 Frustrated Developer Experience with Chrome Extension Bug – No Action from Google 🚨

As a Chrome extension developer, I value the Chrome ecosystem—but this experience has been deeply disappointing.

We filed a critical bug report (#398288319) on Feb 22, 2025: in fullscreen mode, our extension popup closes automatically when users upload a file via the file picker—breaking a core feature.

Despite repeated follow-ups, screencasts, repro packages, and Chromium engineers confirming it's a regression since M128, there has been:

✅ No fix
✅ No owner assigned
✅ No ETA after 2 months

Worse: the Chromium team acknowledged it would require a workaround in macOS AppKit—but then… silence. No resolution, no commitment.

As a startup building user-facing tools on Chrome, this hurts user trust and damages developer confidence in the platform.

👉 Google Chrome team—we expect better.
👉 Chromium leadership—please support extension developers. We build on your platform in good faith.

This isn’t just a UI glitch—it’s a blocker for user experience and retention.

I share your frustration with the delay, as I have been affected by this bug since November. I would like to hear an official response, but I think we could do a better job for the developers by not creating duplicate issues and by providing a minimal test case to demonstrate the bug. There are now at least 3 issues raised for this, none of which provided enough information for the team to reproduce the bug on the first attempt:

Cannot reproduce bug, reporter has not provided an update

Able to reproduce bug 5 days later after reporter had explained how to log in to the extension

Having said that we ought not to create duplicates, I should add that I uploaded a minimal test case and a screencast to issue 348468120 on Nov 27, 2024 and there has been no response to date. The duplicates did at least get a response.
