When can we sell extensions?

According to http://code.google.com/chrome/webstore/faq.html#faq-extensions-01:

Can I sell extensions in the store? -- Not yet. The Google Chrome Extensions Gallery is being rolled into the Chrome Web Store, and selling extensions will be supported.

At the event yesterday someone mentioned the Store only being available in the US until some time next year.  Does this mean extensions won't be for sale until next year when the store can replace the Extension Gallery worldwide?

I had the impression that pricing for extensions would be turned on right after the Store opened, so I've lately been doing work preparing for that.  If extension sale won't be supported for a while, it would be good to know for planning's sake.

Just a note - the web store is open internationally, only paid apps cannot be bought in countries other than the US.
