By the way, maybe you don't know, but your impressions might be low because they recently remove all the extensions from the front pages of the Chrome Store. And from default Chrome Store search results (try to search your extension in Chrome Store Search) - yet they promise to do something about search at list.

But my feeling is that somehow they think that there is no anything they might be need anymore from extensions. So all the favor now with so called Chrome Apps... And extensions - they simple exist, in peace..

Yet the Chrome Web Store is really have many rooms to improve even for Apps.
For example will be cool to have Recently Added page, to help for new things on start.

Also, the picture of our new app is not advertised on the store:

Aslo, we constantly look to similar extensions created by our competitors,
and we have noticed that an extension was increased their active users by 80000, within the ~10 days period (!) without any obvious changes in functionality (!)? Although previously it was gaining 80,000 people within a year! How this is possible?

We also have the statistics from other developers. An extension have 5000 active users and with lower rating has similar number of impressions as our extension with more than 300000 users and ~5 stars rating (!).
This leads to some thoughts.

If someone at Google do not want to - our apps and extensions just will not show at all? And the same time an app (fetured by someone from Google) to be advertised to ten times more. Such a system is similar to the protectionism in politics. It turns out that we attract people to the web store using our external resources, but who turns profitable? Those whom they advertise aka featured apps and the web store.

Look at other software download portals like CNET, Tucows, etc. Is Google can not do as well? I think the situation in the web store is just tragic. No developer support, protectionizm, etc. Such a mess we have not seen anywhere else, and it's called the Web Store? Why is can really invest here when it is a 100% risk of losing all the investment?
