Hi everyone,

Starting today, we're releasing a new version (V2) of the Chrome Web Store API. The new API is significantly easier to use, and has support for features like service accounts, making it easier to integrate with enterprise workflows. We've also added more functionality with the ability to control percentage rollout and programmatically cancel pending submissions.

Thanks,
Oliver on behalf of Chrome Extensions DevRel

Thank you so much, Oliver and the Chrome Extensions team, for the wonderful improvements to the Web Store this year! I really like the new STAGED_PUBLISH option in the V2 API. I will update our scripts to use this version asap :-)

The documentation mentions a limitation for service accounts:

> At this time, you can only add one service account to your publisher.

Is there plans to improve this further, allowing 1 service account per store item? Or will the service account always be 1:1 with a publisher?

What is the recommended way to separate out credentials for a testing extension from the production extension? Should developers wait for the platform to support this, or should they move their testing extensions to another publisher account?

Hi Andrew,

At the moment, our plan is to have service accounts that get access to an entire publisher. I can see the appeal of more limited access for a service account but that isn't on our roadmap.

In most cases, you could likely have the tooling to publish both your test and production extension share the same service account. However, I appreciate the benefit of separation, in which case moving to a different account is an option you could consider.
