Future support for GCM (Google Cloud Messaging)

With Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) being deprecated in favor of Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) I had hoped to see the Chrome extension APIs updated to support FCM. But I have yet to see any changes. Does anyone know if Google plans to bring FCM to Chrome Extensions?
