We used to use the registry method to install a standalone extension but since that option has been removed the vendor has moved their extension to the web store. The installer for our product is generally pushed out to many computers at once so we need to be able to install this extension through a msi rather than expect a person go to hundreds of computers and manually download from the store.

Is this possible any longer?

Hello

I've made it with registry to install an extension on my organization computers
You have to put the CRX file of the extension in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\36.0.1985.125\Extensions"
And then create a registry entry as explained here => https://developer.chrome.com/extensions/external_extensions#registry

It works for me. The only thing users have to do is to activate the extension to use it.

I was under the impression that method no longer worked -- that such extensions would be immediately disabled? That is the behavior we are seeing when installing in such a way.

Installing the extension this way works for me. The extension is well installed but not activated. Users have to go in Extensions panel to activate it.
I've just noticed the Internet connection is needed to see the extension installed. I need a proxy to have Internet access and when it's not configured the extension is not visible.

I still have a problem and maybe you have already faced with it : the default download folder and the homepage can't be configured under master_preference file anymore. Do you experienced it ?
