ExtensionInstallForcelist failure - reason 25

Does anyone have insight into why Chrome would fail to install an extension with this error code:  4116:2576:0126/101708.258:WARNING:chrome\browser\extensions\forced_extensions\force_installed_metrics.cc:575] Forced extension knnoopddfdgdabjanjmeodpkmlhapkkl failed to install with data=failure_reason: 25; install_stage: 2; downloading_stage: 9; no_update_info: 1

Hey Don,

Thanks for asking, and sorry that the errors are so cryptic.

install_stage: 2
Means that the current `install` stage the extension is in is DOWNLOADING (out of pending, downloading. installing, and complete)

downloading_stage: 9
Means that the download "FINISHED" - note this means "we are done with the download, and not that the download was successful.

no_update_info: 1
Means that the update info of the extension was kEmpty

failure_reason: 25
Means CRX_FETCH_URL_EMPTY . This happens when the URL to download the extension's .crx file was empty. As you can see in the comment above the code I linked to, this happens when the update check response from the server indicates "no update". Even more specifically, when there is no update, and the info is empty like this one is, it means that the extension being requested is no longer being served by the server that the extension was installed from (usually the CWS, but in theory could be another server). I have only seen this happen when the extension is unpublished/taken down.

The specific extension (knnoopddfdgdabjanjmeodpkmlhapkkl) was unpublished Oct 2, 2021 at 5:07 PM
