Hi
i am windows developing application which have a part of it as chrome
extension and i have the following problem:

i have created a patch to the application and increased the minor
version number in the extension in the manifest. when i try to remove
the patch from my application everything is fine the CRX is returned
to the previous state (with the lower version in the manifest ) BUT
chrome still loads the updated extension. (which i think is saved
after unpacking the CRX).

when i tried to uninsall the extension and re-installed the CRX i got
the message box of attempting to downgrade the extension.

Any idea how can i support remove of patch of my application? should i
use always the same version in the manifest?

Thanks for your help

You can remove the patch and apply another patch that just bumps the minor version again.

Thanks for the quick answer but I don't think it is an acceptable solution for a major application to publish a dummy patch upon each real patch

Even i am  facing the same problem.I am using chrome version 29.why is chrome not supporting extension downgrades. This should be supported.
You can just prompt confirmation for downgrade and if user accepts should go ahead....

Also installing\uninstalling extensions which are not from app store is not simple.
we provide this extension as part of our app.It installs with registry technique ...
now if we uninstall our app the extension still remain...now if i delete the extension folder  as part of uninstall then it still remain showing dirty icon...
and now if we reinstall our app and extension it does not work ....we have to remove the extension and then it comes again after too much trouble.

The process should be simple like firefox extensions...
