Has the method for user count changed?

Hello! 

For the past 2-3 months my extension has been hovering around a very similar User Count (Weekly users over time), even though net installs (installs-uninstalls) has been steadily growing month over month. I'm talking about the actual metrics I see in the Chrome store analytics, not the number shown publicly. 

I've also noticed other extensions have gone down a bit in their public user count. Is there a change in calculation or a reason for this?

I can attest to this as well. 

I actually logged a ticket a week or so ago out of curiosity, but they weren't able to say much.

No, there has not been any change in how this is calculated. The biggest change would be at this time of year many students stop using their EDU accounts over summer break. As a result, there can be a dip in usage for a subset of extensions.

Hello! Ok, thanks for the reply Patrick.

In our case, we don't have a large student user base so I don't think it's our case. We noticed the change in early May.  Last year we saw something similar but only end of July/August, and over the Christmas Holiday. Then it bounces back up. 

Will keep an eye on it to see what happens.

My weekly users have risen from 818 to 1450 over the last 8 days, despite daily installs not exceeding 5.

Net installs in the previous year were 489, while weekly users rose from 761 to 818 prior to the recent leap.
