Why view-source is empty?

view-source:chrome-extension://{ext-id}/popup.html

I opened the popup.html of an extension, and right-click to "view page
source" and it is empty.

I can use Developer Tools to inspect the elements but I wonder if it
is not the same way to render other htmls why not just disabling "view
page source" in right click menu like it in the view-source: mode?
