Hello,

I didn't try it out because my Android device is currently not working, but I am wondering, are/will extensions be supported in Chrome for Android? From searching multiple sources, there was no mention regarding extensions.

Any more information we can get regarding Extensions for Chrome for Android. If so, when will be expecting it to in mobile, and how will extension development change since it is 3 versions behind the PC build. Will there be more APIs for us to communicate to Androids core from Extensions?

I know, my questions depend on the previous one, but I am just a bit curious :)

Kind regards,
Mohamed Mansour

Extensions are not supported in the current version. Supposedly they are being considered but I couldn't for the life of me find MG's source.

Also not coming along for the ride yet: extensions (but they’re thinking about how best to do them on mobile).

I think it will be at least a little while before we see extensions on mobile Chrome.  On the other hand, I am curious if we might see Chrome apps on mobile sooner.  It would be fantastic to be able to get mobile-optimized web apps from the Chrome Web Store (or Android Market).  In addition, it would be awesome to be able to add Chrome apps to home screens and then launch them like native apps without the Chrome toolbar (the way desktop Chrome and iOS allow).  Those are just some of my ideas.  Whether that happens or not, I am excited to finally see Chrome on mobile devices.

Hey Mohamed,

As Abraham notes, extensions and installable apps aren't supported in the beta. There's no news to report on that front at this time, other than what we say in the FAQ:

Does Chrome for Android support apps and extensions?
Chrome apps and extensions are currently not supported on Chrome for Android. We have no plans to announce at this time.
Can I write web apps on Chrome for Android?
Chrome apps and extensions are not supported on Chrome for Android. Chrome for Android is currently in Beta. We would love to see great interactive web sites accessible by URL.

Hi everybody,

this:

http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=113111

could be converted into a feature request so people with good intentions
can star it

Im glad chrome made it to android, too bad its ICS only and no
extensions yet. But thats what a beta is for ;)

Ah thanks Abraham and Mike, I missed that!

Some more questions, does that mean bookmarklets are no/will be supported? How about greasemonkey scripts? I had tons of ideas in the past of extending mobile experience but it wasn't possible (unless I use Firefox Mobile browser). I know it is a difficult problem to solve in the mobile space and looking forward in looking at the source to see if I can help in any way.

By the way, you originally wrote that the Anrdoid edition of Chrome is three versions behind the "PC build", but the current stable build of Chrome is 16, so, it is actually (currently) on par with the regular edition.

Same story as extensions: there's nothing to talk about at this time.

When the extension support comes out for Chrome mobile. The browser interaction methods will have to be different. For e.g  there would be no point in a popup browser interaction on a mobile display!

I'd really appreciate LastPass and XMarks extension support for Chrome Android.
