Extension update process

Hi all,

I'm looking for some details on the extension update process. The page here https://developer.chrome.com/docs/extensions/how-to/distribute is a bit thin on information.

I'd like to know:

 - How frequent is the browser check for an update in the web store?

 - Does the browser always check on startup?

 - Is the check/update process the same for disabled extensions?

I'm looking for the type of information for Firefox too (though they do have this page here saying "24 hours" https://extensionworkshop.com/documentation/manage/updating-your-extension/#testing-automatic-updating )
