Hi,

I am running into this issue where my published extension on the store will crash and become unusable when enabling the `Allow access to file URLs` option.  Other things may also cause this crash, but this is the only known repro that I am able to consistently see the issue.

When it crashes, the extension can no longer be opened and I cannot see any of the menu items I added when right clicking the browser action button.

What is quite strange is that I can take the downloaded extension files that are installed from the store, copy those files to another directory, and load my extension as an unpacked extension and everything works fine.  I am not able to reproduce this crashed state.

Is there anyone else who has run into this issue or know how to solve it?

Is there anyone from google that may be able to assist us if my company is willing to pay for support?

Thanks,
- Tyler Lentz

On the chrome://extensions page, in Developer mode, is there an Errors button for the extension?

Can you share the extension id or install link?

Maybe you're doing something that works implicitly without permissions in dev mode, but needs actual permissions when deployed?

There are quite a few places where the behavior of Chrome extensions is different depending on whether you're deployed or not (e.g., the rate at which you can run alarms, I think how frequently you can restart before you get locked out is one IIRC, etc.).

A good answer to your question would require more context about your code and what you're actually doing.

There were no errors that I could see when this crash happens.

Is there a list of items like this where the permissions are different for packed vs unpacked?
