Hi Chromium Team,

I am the developer of NetShield, a security extension for Danish schools built entirely on Manifest V3 and declarativeNetRequest.

I am currently advising several municipalities that are still relying on legacy extensions (like "LetSpær") which use webRequestBlocking on Manifest V2 (or V3 with blocking permissions) via the Enterprise Policy exemption.

To ensure they migrate in time before their security infrastructure fails:
Is there a confirmed specific Chrome version or date when the Enterprise Policy exemption for blocking webRequest will be fully removed for ChromeOS?

We are currently in December 2025. Is the hard cutoff expected in early 2026 (e.g., Chrome 144+)?

Any specific timeline would help me push for the necessary migration to DNR.

Best regards,
Mathias Andersen

Hi Mathias,

We have no plans to remove blocking webRequest support for policy-installed extensions. For the foreseeable future, we will continue supporting that.

That said, migrating would of course be great if possible. Do you already have a contact on the Chrome enterprise team? If not, I'm happy to take this discussion out of the mailing list and we can see if there might be someone who can work more closely with you.
