For many years, the Chrome Dev Summit has been held in the United States only.
Is such an event planned in Europe and why did Google practically cease to hold
any dev events in Europe?

I don't have much insight into CDS planning and, unfortunately, don't have time to chase that down. You may get a better answer if you tweet at @chromiumdev.

That said, this certainly isn't the first time I've heard the request for hosting CDS outside of the US and will call out this request next time I speak to the organizers.

Simeon, speaking of Chrome Dev Summit, has registration closed or has it not yet opened? I see that it is "disabled" here. I'd really like to go if there will be sessions about Manifest v3.

Best,
Jeff

Signups are open at https://developer.chrome.com/devsummit/. I wasn't sure about how registration was handled either, but I found this entry in the FAQ:

How can I register for Chrome Dev Summit 2019 and how much does it cost?
Tickets to Chrome Dev Summit are offered at no charge, but you must submit an application to register and admissions are invite-only. Read more.

Oh, ok so I think there are a few problems here Simeon, hopefully you can forward to whoever's organizing the summit:

1. There's no registration link on the 2019 homepage https://developer.chrome.com/devsummit/. It seems like there should be if the Chromium blog etc. are telling folks to request their invite there?
2. There's an "interest form" on that page but I'm not sure how that relates to registration.
3. The FAQ links on that page link to the 2018 FAQ and 2018 registration link. This is why I saw something that suggested that registration was closed.

By Googling what you wrote above, I was able to locate the 2019 FAQ with 2019 registration link: https://developer.chrome.com/devsummit/faqs/. Thanks!

Also I was surprised I had to write "Chrome Extensions" in here when registering :)

can you confirm whether there'll be sessions about extensions and in particular manifest v3?

1: I'm not sure I follow. While there isn't a "register" link, there are two "request an invite" links. In my previous reply I was trying to call out that it was invite-only, so you have to "request an invite" rather than "register." If that's the point of confusion here, I'll definitely communicate that to the organizers.

2 & 3: I don't see an interest form on this page… I wonder if this is a PWA caching issue. Could you try opening https://developer.chrome.com/devsummit/ in an incognito window or in a different browser?

"Also I was surprised I had to write "Chrome Extensions" in here when registering"
Unofficial 4: Historically extensions haven't exactly been a big part of the CWS experience ;). Hopefully a few other folks will also write in extensions so we have a clear signal attendees are interested in learning more.

Unfortunately I don't have an update about extensions at CDS yet. I did propose a talk, so here's to hoping 🤞

Oh wow, you appear to have nailed it. In a regular window I see

which even looks partially updated for 2019! Except for there being no "request an invite" links, and the FAQ link at the top there going to the 2018 FAQ.

When I open the site in Incognito, I see

which appears all good.

Great catch! Maybe there's still feedback for the organizers there, to try to bust users' caches or something

Separately, hoping to hear your extension talk and others at the summit!
