We have encountered issues with uploading files after publishing the Chrome extension. However, it works well in both the development and production environments. Is there anyone who knows how to solve this problem?

Hi Thaarmah,

It looks like you're trying to fetch a file:// URL. To do that, users will need to enable file access by going to chrome://extensions, heading to the details page for your extension and enabling this setting:

Note that for extensions downloaded from the Chrome Web Store, it only shows for extensions that request file:// URL access in the permissions or optional_permissions field. You likely have this if it is working locally though.

Fetching file:// URLs probably isn't the way to go if you can avoid it. Using an input element with type="file" is the better option and would allow you to avoid that.

Hi Oliver,

I wanted to reach out and express my sincere thanks for your guidance regarding the file uploading issue we were facing with our Chrome extension. Your suggestion to enable file access through the Chrome extension settings effectively resolved the problem, and we're very appreciative of your help.

Looking ahead, we're considering your recommendation to use an input element with type="file" for manual uploading. It seems like a more streamlined and user-friendly approach. However, for the immediate future, we plan to inform our users about enabling file access in the extension settings as a temporary solution.

Your expertise and advice have been invaluable, and we're grateful for your support.
