Client Id without publishing extension?

This is my first time doing an extension.

I don't understand why I have to publish my extension (testing phase) in order to obtain a client id to use google login. Not ready for prime time.

I've been using the Load Unpacked up until now, but need to test a login popup to continue, which won't work without the client id.

Can anyone explain this to me? Workaround?
