Is it possible to send windows messages to a Google Chrome Extension via hoekey or similiar?

Hey,

My Google Chrome Extension supports keyboard shortcuts. I am trying to use the shortcuts even when Google Chrome does not have focus by using the program hoeykey: http://www.bcheck.net/apps/hoe.htm

I am wondering if this is possible? I am trying to use Microsoft Spy++ on the "Chrome_RenderWidgetHostHWND" which appears to be my extension's pop-up window, but it says "The specified window cannot be spied upon. Windows will not allow access to the message stream for this window."

If I spy on "Chrome_WidgetWin_1" which is the Chrome window -- I can see a message being sent to the extension, but it doesn't seem to give up any information about what is being sent. As such, it's a bit hard to mimic a message to the extension.

Hopefully this is possible. I would love to be able to use Google Chrome's keyboard shortcuts while inside of a full-screen video game.
