Our extension usually gets published within 40 mins , 1 hour tops but my last update is stuck in review for last 4 hours . Is there any slowdown in the review process ?

Hi Amisha,

4 hours is well within the expected time for review, and even if your extension is normally approved quicker some variance is expected.

If it still isn't approved by the end of the week, let me know and I'd be happy to make sure everything is in order.

Thanks,

Hi Oliver,

We're also seeing extended review times. Reviews got slow a few months ago, and have gotten even slower as of last week. We're seeing a few days on average per review.

Chrome Extension ID: cpjedmmeadohcjionoanpigjbldckpog

How do we ensure our reviews are faster going forward?

Thank you

It's important to consider a number of factors when talking about review times.

If the review team based in America, they might be short-staffed due to Easter holidays and staff taking a leave break since the Easter period is common for this.
As you may know, extensions are reviewed in the order they are submitted, so right now may be a period where many developers have published new extensions or updates.
  • It would make sense, given the Easter break once again (where devs have taken the time to work on and update their projects)
You can see around 1,000 were newly published in the last week alone - https://chrome-stats.com/chrome/stats

Put these factors, and many that I haven't included, together and that may explain the current "delays".
Note, review times spanning days is still well within the listed review period.

I would also say that its unreasonable to base review time expectations on quick review times, especially given the last sentence.

Hi Aamir,

A few days is also within the expected timeframe for reviews. According to https://developer.chrome.com/docs/webstore/review-process:

In early 2021, most submissions completed review in less than 24 hours, with over 90% completed within three days.

I checked with the team at the end of last year and this remains accurate today.

Unfortunately, there isn't anything specific you can do to decrease review time. There are many factors here and they are not all under your control.
