Hello,

I have been self-hosting an addon which is based on the Snoop Dogg translating-website from 2005.

Now I am trying to migrate the extension, called Gizoogle 2.0, to the Web Store. Extension ID fmlbfmomaljkgpojlalmifholhflgfmp.

Let me just clarify, I was reluctant to pay the developer's fee up until now, although I have had the extension (and an equivalent Firefox addon) functional for over a year now. One reason is because I am just a hobbyist addon programmer, and secondly because I did not know if my addon can have been accepted. However, a decent number of Chrome users from my site were willing to help pay the developer's fee, so the site has managed to raise $5 in donations and I have paid the fee. I want to meet expectations of visitors and the people who donated by smoothly transitioning to hosting it officially on the Web Store, being that self-hosting is not possible now.

My biggest concern is whether or not you will recognize this as a work of parody, as I understand Google's trademark must be respected, as well as Snoop Dogg's lyrics. The following factors are particularly of concern:
  • A logo inspired by a modified version of Google's logo is used, with spinning car rims replacing the letter "o", to emphasize the influence from Rap culture. The name is also obviously a parody of Google's name combined with the "izzle" phrase which is common in rap and hip-hop.
  • The addon only uses small phrases from Snoop Dogg's lyrics, generally less than a sentence long. The full list can be found in the gizoogle.js file in the extension package, in the variable "endings".
  • The addon contains a lot of profanity. I have made a warning in the description, but I do not know if it is stated explicitly enough, or if obscenities are not allowed at all.
  • The addon can cause issues with some site layouts (making text take up more space than it should, etc). This is somewhat intentional. I have not run into any script conflicts, but it's a possibility. I do not know if this meets your standards for addons.
The other website that imitates the original Gizoogle.com has received Snoop Dogg's personal praise (https://twitter.com/SnoopDogg/status/336895091505512449).

The Web Store promotional images show how the extension's logo is used:

I believe this addon is protected as fair-use and works of parody, but if any aspect is in conflict with Google's rules, I would appreciate clarification so as to allow me to make changes to fit within your policies. Thank you.

The equivalent Firefox extension has 550 total downloads/125 daily users. I think it would be a shame if I couldn't make the Chrome extension available considering I did not have to compromise any of the above factors for Mozilla's approval and 4-5 times as many Chrome users visit my site than Firefox users.

Thank you,
Adam A.

I checked back into the status of the extension's promo images, and I've noticed the smaller two images were rejected for unspecified reasons. I don't have enough experience hosting on the Web Store to know what this means about the extension's status overall. Other than the rejections, migrating to the web store has been a smooth and intuitive experience.

I would greatly appreciate input from a more experienced developer on the approval process for some reassurance.
