Hello,

We noticed our "Publisher display name" set in Account -> Profile is no longer used in our extension pages nor the new publisher pages. Instead our legal entity name is displayed, but users are not familiar with our company's legal name. We expect our DBA (doing business as) name to appear like it did before.

You can see how it worked before in the preview page: Developer Dashboard -> edit item -> click top-right menu -> click Preview.

Is it possible for us to use our DBA name in the public publisher name?

We have a support ticket open (6-4050000040512) but wanted to see if this is a concern for other developers. The initial response from support team was that it's related to the publisher pages update and that it's expected behavior. I have now asked if there's a way to use our DBA name.

Best,
Michael

Hi Michael,

Currently, it isn't possible to use anything other than your company's legal name here. As you mentioned, following the publisher page update, we show the publisher name for any organizations verified as a trader and with the established publisher badge. The reasoning is that we need to be sure that the text we show on the publisher page is legitimate, and we don't currently have a way to automatically import or manually review alternative names.

This is definitely something we're actively discussing and we may make changes in the future as a followup to the initial publisher pages launch. Unfortunately, there isn't anything I can suggest currently, however.

Hi Oliver,

Thanks for the response.

Is "Publisher display name" used anywhere, either for orgs verified as traders or any other type of publisher? Perhaps this field should be removed if it's not used anywhere.

We did notice that many publishers still use the verified website as the publisher name, probably because they are not verified organizations. This would be an acceptable fix for us, because as far as we can tell this was prior behavior for all extensions prior to the publisher page update. Upon review, we don't think the "Publisher display name" was really used anywhere that was highly visible in recent months (perhaps years).

Allowing us to show a DBA name or our verified website like before is certainly our top request for CWS.

Best,
Michael

Hi Michael,

For your item, I don't think the publisher display name would ever be used. However, we do still show it for items without an official URL in the "Details" section of the item listing.

I definitely appreciate the feature request.
