Hi,
I work in a school and we use a chrome extension to prevent access to certain sites. We are experiencing an issue where if a student opens a local html it is not getting blocked, if I enable Allow access to file URLs it then blocks the content as expected. We use GPO to force install the extension however when trying to use the json to allow file_url_navigation_allowed it doesn't do anything. Force pinning works however. I'm on Chrome version Version 131.0.6778.140. Is there something we're doing wrong as this is important for us as it's causing us to miss safeguarding issues
Thanks

I see some incorrect answers suggesting to use this policy, but it's about the extension's ability to navigate a tab to a file:// URL, not for "Allow access to file URLs" setting. There's no policy for the latter.

Hi woxxom,
Thanks for coming back to me so quickly. Is there anyway to add that as a feature request, Allowing access to file URLs and also Allow in Incognito (the first becoming more important) as since a lot of web filtering products are now going over extensions this seems quite important to be able to force these settings via GPO.
Thanks!

You can suggest it in https://crbug.com. It was suggested multiple times previously, all rejected, AFAICT, but you may succeed where they failed if your description of the use case is more convincing.
