Why are you using Chrom(ium) 51? The latest is 53. Google does not (officially, anyway) support older versions, which might include old protocols.

Whenever I installed "chromium-browser" using synaptic that's what version it installed for me. What's the best way to update chromium on my ubuntu system :? I must add that I used the ubuntu net install to create a minimal system, so I'm not using your bog standard ubuntu os.

I do not know, but using old versions of Chromium puts you at a very high risk, as they have many known security issues.

Hmmm yes that is very true when using an older version of a web browser. I really did not know that the version that I was using was out dated. I'm going to look into updating to the latest version and update as soon as I'm on my laptop next.

You are still prone to hacking due to known security issues with Chrome 52. Always update to the latest version, currently 53.
