I'm a client side developer and Chrome is by far my browser of choice due to their dev tools, I also like using Chrome for browsing.  However, I end up with enormous amounts of traffic because I have to keep cache disabled because of the constant testing.

Is there a method, via extension or otherwise, to disable or purge cache based on a domain or set of domains?
Are there methods for purging specific files from the cache via extension that would allow for the creation of such an extension?

Thanks, this would make a tremendous difference to me and from what I've seen from my searches, this is a somewhat popular request.

Ctrl+F5 or Ctrl + click on Refresh button will reload the page
bypassing the cache. Won't that work better for you?

Generally, you can use the Developer Tools feature of "Disable cache".
It applies only to the tab and only when you activate the Developer Tools for that tab.
Once you close the Developer Tools, the cache returns to its normal state for that tab.

There is no API for clearing/disabling cache for a specific origin.
You could use the webRequest API to direct traffic from specific web origins to local/extension content, I guess.

I have been at this for roughly a year before deciding to post my question here.  The problem is I'm working on web based SASS solutions (I work with online video management systems) with a combination of flash assets, js files, JSON web service responses, spread across multiple domains, etc.  without any particular pattern as to which piece I'm working on at the time.  I've noticed ctrl f5 does not work reliably in this kind of environment and disabling my entire cache (which is what developer tools > General > disable cache is doing in my experience) has led to a lot of extra bandwidth and losing a lot of the benefits of chrome since my personal machine is also my development machine.

Thank you for bringing attention to the features you have mentioned, however, these solutions have not been working for me and it's difficult to recollect the many reasons I've come across to this being the ideal solution.  I keep coming back to this place and have been looking for a solution in firefox, chrome, any browser that will support it and no one seems to.  Is there something about cache structure / indexing that makes this kind of thing difficult?
