Subject: Proposal: Support for Emoji rendering in Subdomains (IDN) for Verified Parent Domains

Body:

Hello Chromium Team,

I am a developer and a user who utilizes Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) to create creative and expressive web environments.

[Current Issue] Currently, when I use emojis in a subdomain, such as 🍕이모지🔥.yjm.kr, Chrome automatically converts and displays it as Punycode (xn--v52b17upwbl865cn5b.yjm.kr) in the address bar. I understand that this is a security measure to prevent homograph attacks and phishing.

[My Proposal] I believe that the current policy is too restrictive for subdomains managed by the owner of a verified parent domain. I would like to propose that Chrome allows the visual rendering of emojis in subdomains under certain conditions.

  1. Freedom of Expression in Subdomains: Unlike the main TLD or SLD, subdomains are often used for personal branding, creative projects, and community engagement. Blocking emoji rendering limits the user experience and creative potential of the web.

  2. Trust-Based Rendering: If the parent domain (e.g., yjm.kr) has a clear reputation or if the user has explicitly navigated to it, the risk of a homograph attack is significantly lower compared to the root domain.

  3. User Choice: Please consider providing an option or a "white-list" mechanism where legitimate domain owners can choose to display their subdomains as intended (in Unicode) rather than forced Punycode.

[Example]

While security is paramount, the "Punycode-only" policy for subdomains feels like a technical barrier to the evolving language of the internet. I request the team to review the possibility of allowing Emoji IDN rendering for subdomains to guarantee freedom of expression for developers and site owners.

Thank you for your hard work and for considering this feedback.

Best regards,
