I've been trying to find the answer to this for a while and turned up nothing. I've rented a couple of movies from the Play store that were listed as supporting 5.1 audio but they all played back in stereo. This is in Chrome v51.0.2704 on a Windows 10 PC with fully functioning multi-channel audio via HDMI to my receiver. Games, native apps etc. all output in 5.1.

I've seen a few suggestions to try disabling the Flash plugin but this wasn't successful. If Chrome/Chromium does indeed support 5.1, any ideas how to begin troubleshooting the issue?

Many thanks.

According to crbug.com/25315, this is supported.
Perhaps try a Google Play support group, or the Chrome product forum.
If you do find a solution, it would be great if you could share it with this group as well.

Unfortunately I've tried both with little response. I don't think I've ever heard 5.1 from Chrome, I'm not convinced it's currently working. Are there any flags that need to be set?

It seems to be enabled by default.

You can search crbug.com for an existing issue and star it. If you cannot find one, file a new issue using the "New issue" link on the same page.
Please, do not add a "+1" or "Me too" or "Confirmed" (or similar) comment. It just wastes the time of Chrome engineers and sends unnecessary e-mails to all of the people who starred the issue.

You can reply with a link to the found or created issue and might get triaged (and fixed) faster.

Thank you.

So apparently it does work.
