Dear Chromium Developers,
I am writing to propose a UI/UX enhancement for the bookmark management system. Specifically, I recommend implementing a multi-column horizontal tiled display for bookmark folders.
The Problem with Current Implementation: Currently, Chrome displays bookmark folder contents in a single vertical list. For power users with dozens of links in one folder, this leads to excessive scrolling and inefficient use of screen real estate, especially on modern ultra-wide monitors.
Why Extensions are Not a Perfect Solution: While some extensions (like "Neater Bookmarks") offer a grid view, they suffer from a significant "Efficiency Gap" compared to native features:
Extra Clicks: Users must click the specific extension icon first, adding an unnecessary layer of interaction.
Loss of Muscle Memory: The native Bookmark Bar is the most intuitive and quickest entry point. Having to switch to a separate extension UI breaks the seamless browsing workflow.
Performance & Consistency: Native implementation ensures better memory management and a UI style that remains consistent with the rest of the browser.
Proposed Feature:
Grid/Tiled View Toggle: Add a setting (or a right-click option on folders) to "Display as Grid/Multi-column."
Horizontal Expansion: Allow the dropdown to expand horizontally across the screen, utilizing the available width to show multiple columns of bookmarks at once.
User Value: This would drastically reduce "Time-to-Click" and make Chrome the go-to browser for professionals who manage massive amounts of research and resources through bookmarks.
Thank you for considering this enhancement to make the web more accessible and efficient.
Best regards
