Hi all

I am looking for a way to enable Java and PDF NPAPI plugins to run in Chorimum portable 32-bit from version 10 to version 41 (last that supports NPAPI) on Windows XP and later OS .

Goal is to have portable Chromium that runs Java (1.6.*, 1.7.* and 1.8.*) and PDF (Adobe 10, 11, DC, Foxit) system plugins without any questions and nag buttons (enable this time, outdated plugin etc.) on secure Intranet site.

Since I am planning to use portable version, all configuration should reside inside top directory from which Chromium is run. That is the case with most portable versions I plan to use:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/crportable/files/

Initial settings should be done outside Data\Profiles\Default directory (first run with empty directory) or Preferences file should be initially populated only with customized settings. Those are:

* Java and PDF plugin run automatically without any questions - this is priority
* Show Home button - enabled with URL http://192.168.0.1:12345/start
* Allow all sites to show pop-ups
* Disable Autofill
* Disable save passwords
* Disable translate pages
* Disable auto updater
* Disable check default browser

I have tried master_preference, policy in Windows registry, tweaking Preferences file ... nothing seems to fully work.

What is your advice? What Chromium portable version should I use (fastest possible) and how can I customize it according to my needs?

Thanks, regards
Ivica

First, those are very old versions. I hope you do not plan on browsing the internet (not intranet or local files) with them, because you will be putting yourself at a huge risk of being completely hacked (they have countless known critical security issues).

Second, I think a lot of those can be disabled using Group Policies, if you use Windows (whichever version) Professional or higher. Note that you need to have "Chromium" instead of "Chrome" (or "Google/Chrome") as the main registry key. Some policies were not initially implemented, so you will have to check the "Supported on" section in the policy list for every policy you try to set and make sure you are using that version or higher.

Automatic update is never enabled for Chromium (not sure about Chromium portable).
And I am surprised that translation works.

Note that master_preferences only applies to completely new profiles. It does not affect existing profiles.

No real advice here, sorry. If nothing works, you might have to build your own edition (compile code).

Hi

Thanks for the answer. As I wrote in first post, Chromium will be used only for access to secure Intranet site so let's assume that security issue is not relevant here.
So far I have managed to set up Group Policy that works but not in all versions - some old versions like 10 or 12 are working but in example version 41.0.2272.12 is completely ignoring registry settings (I did use Chromium hive).
I found bug report that Chromium with version 28 and higher ignores direct registry reading (except when PC is AD domain member) and uses GPO direct queries - so I guess I am stuck with version 27.

Is there any way to include separate Java and PDF reader plugins inside Chromium portable directory and become independent of system Java and PDF reader?

Thanks, regards

Ivica
