We are configuring and deploying Google Chrome within an enterprise over SCCM.

We need to disable WebGL for all users during the install.

Is there a means to do this?

I see nothing in the master preferences file that allows me to disable this

The only help I have seen online is to amend the chrome.exe shortcut to include --disable-webgl but this did not work when checking chrome://flags  It only appears to set this when done within chrome://flags

Setting the shortcut to include --disable-webgl will only work if the user launches this shortcut - if chrome is the default browser, any URLs launched will by-pass the setting

Redirecting calls to chrome.exe via a bat file will mean two dialogs appear, chrome and a suspended cmd window until chrome exits.

We need this to work for an enterprise deployment without any user intervention to disable this setting.

Can anyone please advise?

regards
Brian

Have you searched the policy list?

(Also, there are solutions for all of the issues you raised regarding the command line flags, but they involve basic batch file or registry editing skills)

Note that master_preferences just specifies defaults that users are free
to override anytime. Policy is the way to go, as correctly pointed out
by PhistucK.

Yes, the Disable3DAPIs policy entry was added for this purpose.

Out of curiosity, why is this enterprise interested in disabling WebGL
specifically? Are there security concerns about the capabilities of
the API?
