I'm using chrome 26.0.1410.19 beta-m and I notice latest chromium(185127) all have this issue.

My system is windows 7 professional SP1.
If you open chrome and click start->shutdown, you will see windows need close chrome for a long time.
But windows doesn't mention "This program is preventing windows from shutdown",
After a long long time wait, chrome can be closed, you can also close it by force exit program.

It doesn't appear in M25
Does anyone other than me meet this issue?

I have the same very (very!) long wait time when trying to shutdown or restart my system.

The silver lining for me is that this problem has pushed me to try Firefox again.  I have been suffering through Chrome insatiable memory and CPU hunger.  Now I can't even get it to shutdown without taking a couple of minutes.

It's too hard to belive that there are only two people meet this bug.
Does chromium team willing to test these?
Between M25 and first M26 version in beta channel.

I'm expieriencing the same problem ever since I had to reinstall Windows.
I am also on Windows 7 Professional SP1 running Chrome v26.0.1410.43 m.

It happens on every shutdown as long as Chrome is still open at that point.

Same issue here.
Try to shutdown and all the chrome processes hang.
I cancel the shutdown, and all the pages have the purple "hes dead jim"
Then i can shutdown easily.
dammit chrome!

me too, i dont know, i guess it started somewhere arround version 22.
also dont know, if all the increasing use of extentions is causing it. Mailchecker, RSS,Canvas Bike,Weather check.
i got a SSD drive, so no much action there.
what i find most interesting is, if I close it manually by clicking X top right, it almost closes in an instant.
but when windows sends its shutdown request to all processes, chrome does something different.
When i later come, and see if windows is finnaly down, chrome wants to be kicked by Taskmanager,
but when i dont do that, and cancel the shutdown, i see the main window of chrome, with all addons and extensions unproper killed.
i just close it manually, and shut it all down.
iam used now, to start using windows like in 3.11 times... first close chrome manually, and shut windows then down...   2013...

Hopefully another chromium developer will know more about this
situation and reply here. In the meantime, here's what you can do:
(1) Feel free to star this bug to follow progress on the issue:
https://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=230122
- you may already know, it won't help to post on the bug saying
"it's broken for me too" --- just star the issue.

(2) Can some of you check what background tabs / extensions you have
on your version of chrome? That would probably help someone debug it.

Best,
Shawn

I've checked my latest pure chromium without any extensions, this issue can be reproduced on it.

I've had this issue for a while. It is extremely annoying, it has made my shutdown process 10-20 seconds longer (about 100% longer really).

I'm using normal Chrome beta, version 27.0.1453.47 beta-m

I think it has to do with the option "allow google chrome to run in the background".
In your task bar, right click on chrome icon and de-select this option.

Are you on W8? This option isn't available to me and I'm on W7.

I think this option is only visible if you have background apps installed (e.g., gmail offline). If this is a common case for this issue, please log a detailed bug a http://crbug.com

Thanks!

I've got 'run in bg' turned off on all my Chrome installations across PCs, and it still happens for me on all of them.

I dont have this option as well and i run win7 on all my systems. And i can tell that i have this problem on all devices. Have a PC, Laptop and Ultrabook. I just bought new mainboard and CPU and did a fresh install. After installing Chrome, i have the same problem again. Also tried to deactivate and turn off some "apps" but nothing helped so far...

This bug was fixed a while ago, but I don't think it's in stable yet.  Look for it in version 28.
