In Chrome 68 (and at least 40 previous versions), pressing CMD+SHIFT+F will put the tab into fullscreen. Moving the mouse up to the top of the screen will reveal the browser UI. I absolutely loved this feature for years.

In Chrome 69, an attempt to fix what was not broken has lead to the removal of this feature. Pressing CMD+SHIFT+F will still put the tab into fullscreen but moving the mouse up to the top of the screen does not show the browser UI.

I tried changing chrome://flags#top-chrome-md to all of the available options and none of them bring back the old behavior.

Fullscreen in Chrome 69 is kind of clunky. I can enter fullscreen but when I want to change tabs, I have to exit full screen then change tabs and then enter fullscreen again. It almost makes me not want to use the feature.

Is this just a temporary hiccup as the UI is reworked? Or was there a conscious decision to remove a feature that has been in Chrome for such a long time? I don't remember a time when this wasn't a feature so I've kind of gotten used to it. Perhaps there is another flag that brings back the old behavior but I can't seem to find one. Better yet, is there some way that I can downgrade to Chrome 68 and disable auto-update?

I believe this is for Mac only. If you want to switch tabs in fullscreen while the browser UI is not shown, you can use Command+Shift+F to bring the browser UI back to switch tabs without leaving fullscreen mode.

This is just a temporary hiccup. We are hard at work on bringing it back. You can follow the tracking bug here https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=868398

Huh - so I take it that MacViews (though not the end-goal, only MacViews Cocoa) has shipped?

Thanks for getting back to me! I'm glad to see I'm not the first person to post about this. It looks like it's been fixed but not released yet. All I have to do is wait.

It seems like the issue was fixed by sdy and targeted for version 70. We're currently in version 71 stable, and not only has the fix not been integrated, but they also removed any relevant flags that could temporarily fix this issue. Do you have any idea why? When do you think it will be available? Is it available in Beta or Canary?
