I would like the ability to hide the local bookmark creation star in
my address bar, as I use the google bookmark extension (i keep my
bookmarks online.)

Is this remotely possible?

Current version: Chrome 7.0.517.0 DEV

Nope.
You can search crbug.com for an existing issue and star it. If you cannot find one, file a new issue at new.crbug.com.

why not? if we can have check box remove the home button, whats to
stop us from having a checkbox to comment out the stock bookmark star?

Yeah... it seems to me that once you start using the online Google
Bookmarks, it would be good to be able to removed the star in the
location bar for the local bookmarks. Both to keep you from screwing
up, and using the wrong one, AND to keep the crap on the browser to a
minimum. It would seem to me that since Chrome is made by Google, and
Google would want to promote the use of cloud bookmarking, that it
would be a option they would WANT to offer. Even something like "use
cloud bookmarks instead of local bookmarks" and then have the local
book mark switch over to actually use the cloud bookmark.

Cheers! Rich Griese

I can definitively say that I've never intentionally clicked on the bookmark star. It's quite annoying when you use a different bookmarks manager to have to then delete the bookmark you've accidentally created only after trying to edit the address of the page.

I'm also quite surprised that this has been requested repeatedly on many mediums yet still remains fixed after almost 8 years.

It seems quite trivial to hide in code via even a secret preference, and the ability to add bookmarks is also available via the menu. Can't we get some love on this? I mean come on.

I rarely use the star to bookmark a page. Same for Control + D.
I mostly click/press by mistake.
(I just drag into the bookmarks bar most of the time, it is easier than all of the clicks required for selecting a folder/place in the dialog)
