I'm trying switching from firefox to chromium on linux (ubuntu)
chromium: Version 87.0.4280.66 (Official Build) snap (64-bit)

Ran into very odd behaviour that and not sure what causes it. looking at file:///tmp it does not show any of the files there. It does show two directoris that do not exist in /tmp: .snap and .snap.chromium.Chromium.hFY7LT (which do not exist there).

I needed to upload a certain file from/tmp to a website, and could not find a way to do that in chromium. (I had to copy the file to my home directory.)

A couple of searches didn't find anything relevant. Pointers will be appreciated.

FWIW, trying to open file:///usr or file:///boot just shows a loading animation./home works fine though.

I tried it on chrome version 86.0.4240.193 and it worked just fine. Chromium uses the standard system API. Did you install a security product on Ubuntu? Maybe something shows up in syslog.

Jon.

OK - eventually figured it out.  apparently on ubuntu apt uses snap for some packages, and the snap version of chromium is in some kind of chroot jail.  I reinstalled from the debian directory, and that resolved the issue.
