Hi all,

I am new to chromeOs and wanted to know that, how to disable sleep mode?

What I am doing currently is, reset the device.

I search into “browser’s setting” also but, could not get.

Thanks and Regards

Some time back I had to use ChromeOS as a server like OS. For that I disabled all power management related features. What I did at the time was to get root access made the rootfs writabel and deleted some init files:

# sudo rm /etc/init/power.conf
# sudo rm /etc/init/powerd.conf
# sudo rm /etc/init/powerm.conf

This worked for ChromeOS 16.

Of cause thats a bit low level, but it turns off sleep completely and keeps ChromeOS running even with the lid closed.

See http://www.chromium.org/chromium-os/poking-around-your-chrome-os-device for information on how to enter developer mode and make the rootfs writable.

Regards,
Søren

Hey, I found, BY MY SELF, how to make your chrome os close its lid without losing any wifi, having to reload your tabs, or if you just want to listen to music. (you might have to reload your tabs for J4M) If you want to know how then here it is.

-Not to have to reload tabs OR wait for wifi connection

Step 1: Go to www.youtube.com and play something that isn't too short. Play like music that are about 3 min long. (MAKE SURE IT IS FULLY LOADED BEFORE YOU DO THIS)

Step 2: Lower brightness down to where one more press of it would make it look like it is sleeping.

Step 3: Play your video and move your arrow head at the start of the video and you CANNOT MOVE IT ANY MORE.

Step 4: Lower brightness down.

Step 5: Now your screen SHOULD be PITCH black WITH song or video playing (You should play something that has sound). You then wait for 5 or 6
sec and then you click the touchpad (where you move your arrow).

Step 6: Close your lid SLOWLY but in under 2 sec. You cannot slam it. You must slowly close it but you cannot let the chrome os close it for you. (if you don't know what I mean by not letting chrome os close it for you, then try closing it VERY slowly and you will see that it closes itself at a certain point).

How do you know if you did it right?: After you have done these steps (may take some tries to do it) you should hear some sound playing. That is how you will know that it is working. (I do not know how to do this WITHOUT playing a video from youtube [I play this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nxso3KEOv-o&feature=related video when I did it])

If you just want to listen to music. J4M

Step 1: Go to your music video FROM youtube and play it.

Step 2: Play music (MAKE SURE IT IS FULLY LOADED)

Step 3: Move your arrow head at the beginning of song. (YOU CANNOT MOVE YOUR ARROW OR IT MIGHT NOT WORK)

Step 4: Start with a kinda bright screen. (about half way of brightness) Turn your brightness down to PITCH BLACK with button then turn it bright up again about at least 1/3 of the BRIGHTNESS bar AT LEAST 3 times really fast. You should stop with a PITCH BLACK screen.

Step 5: Wait for at least 3 seconds, then press the touchpad and then close your lid. (You should still hear music when you closed it for at least for bit)

Step 6: If music stops playing (for me it stops ALWAYS) then open it and LOOK at the light near the POWER button sign. (STUDY THIS BEFORE YOU DO THIS. You MUST know the actual light brightness of the little light [I call it P Light] that is next to the POWER button sign.) Wait until the P Light by is to its full brightness where it would actually be on, then close the it. If you open the lid and see that the P Light is already at full brightness then close it. If you start to hear music while the lid is open, then close it. Keep doing this until you have your lid close with music playing FOR the entire song.

How do you know you did it right?: Music is playing with lid closed FOR the entire song. If it does not work your chrome os it is either because it has been updated or you are not doing it right. If you are sure you are doing it right then Ask yourself "What is am I trying this on?" If it isn't a chrome os then this won't help you. If you do not understand these steps, contact me and tell me that you don't understand it. I will personally make a video tutorial on this so you can understand.
