First, thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

I bought an ACER C720 Chromebook in January and it has worked great until a couple of days ago.  The first symptom was that some of the keys don't work which does not allow me to type in the proper credentials and log in.  Looked through blogs and found that I could attach a USB keyboard to log in!  However, I went to powerwash the chromebook and it seems to respond according to the documentation with asking me to restart.  I do that, but I don't get a screen or any other indication to that the machine has been powerwashed.  It hasn't since my account and files are still there.  I try to powerwash by logging out and hitting ctrl-alt-shift-r.  Again, it asks to restart but I don't get a dialogue box that opens allowing me to select restart per the documentation.  Let's keep going.  I can't enter developer mode at all.  ESC-refresh-power does nothing but start the machine normally.

No powerwash and no developer mode to reinstall the OS and see if the keyboard was a software issue.  I really love this little computer and it has been used a lot by everyone in the family.  But may have to go to stock laptop and install Linux if I can't get this working.

Please help!

Alright...

Just in case anybody else runs into this same issue:
1.) Hold power for 10-20 seconds until the chromebook is off
2.) Press and hold escape & refresh then press power
3.) Wait patiently and don't press the space bar

This will factory reset your Acer c720 chromebook - (IT WILL ERASE ALL LOCAL CONTENT)

Hi.

Only button seems to be working is the power button. It will turn on and off but thats it.

When it comes on , and the sign in screen says enter password..I cant because for example if I press the letter "s" a pile of "*" come on the screen as if
by pressing the letter "s" its like pressing a bunch of keys.

I found also to press in the reset hole (near the HDMI) output, but here is no such hole to put a pin in to reset.

I'm stuck. Help!

M.

Sounds like you are talking about Chromium/Chrome OS. This group is for the browser, not the operating system.
