Hello,

I'm curious as to why QR code scanning was rolled out in Chrome for iOS several months ago (Chrome 56), but has not made it to Android yet.

Is there a reason for the delay? Is it expected to be released any time?

I detect a lack of interest in this topic. Is this because it's no longer planned for Android or because the Chrome dev team has nothing to share at this time?

There was just a message about poor performance of javascript in chrome on IOS.  Chrome on IOS doesn't actually use V8 Engine but uses an apple webview type widget instead; so the QR code reading probably isn't actually on Chrome, but on IOS.
I was trying to find the message that referenced that but could not....
was actually I think on like v8-users group about performance of javascript...

Thanks for the response. I figured that there would potentially need to be a completely different strategy for QR code capture on iOS vs. Chrome, just wondering why there wouldn't be feature parity between Chrome iOS and Chrome Android.

I don't work on this feature (or on iOS) but it seems like there's less need for this feature on Android, where QR scanning apps are going to just trigger the user's default browser via the intent system, and thus if the user uses Chrome it'll run Chrome. iOS doesn't appear to offer as many options for configuration in this regard and links from other apps are typically going to launch Safari.
