I had just done a fresh install of Windows 7 for my son (he wants to play with Lego Mindstorms) so the first thing I did was get Chrome on that laptop. I just opened IE, and typed Chrome in the search box (this is in the UK). I clicked the top ad which pointed me to downloadlist.net/chrome. Unfortunately, I did not notice the URL at first. I just clicked and installed Chrome.

Next thing I know, I'm seeing a bunch of popups flash by, IE goes to some weird video site. I immediately open task manager and find 10+ programs being installed on the machine. Shiiiiiiiiit.

In any case, I've done a clean re-install but it might be worth for Google to get involved as your average windows user might associate this malware with Google.

Did you report this to Bing?

Yes; hopefully they take action. Admittedly, it only happened with IE8 on bing. With a new install including service packs etc, Bing doesn't show ads when searching for Chrome.

They seems to have taken it down (either automatically or not). I cannot spot it (I tried using the United Kingdom locale).
Also, see this -

Well, that will teach you. ;)
